The Civic Innovation Fellowship

The Civic Innovation Fellowship (formerly Paris Summer Innovation Fellowship) is a program created by Five by Five, in partnership with the City of Paris. Its goal is to bring together the brightest and most talented individuals to find innovative solutions to problems affecting cities worldwide.

In its second year, the Civic Innovation Fellowship will expand beyond Paris, launching a new edition in Manila, Philippines. Each city will serve up a unique set of challenges sourced from our extensive range of partners. Fellows sign up for a specific challenge, or suggest their own. If selected, they will be invited for a two-week fellowship to build out their solution. But they won't go it alone, over the course of the two weeks a selection of top-tier mentors and experts will be on hand to help guide fellows as they look to reach their objectives.

While challenges will be specific to each city, the end goal is the same: provide meaningful, concrete solutions that impact the quality of life for city residents and visitors.

If you are interested in participating in this year's program, either as a volunteer or sponsor, contact us directly through the Civic Innovation Fellowship site!  Fellowship applications will open soon.  Stay tuned!

Countering a typhoon with developers

Super Typhoon Haiyan, one of the strongest tropical cyclones ever recorded, devastated the Philippines, killing up to 10,000 people.  The Geeklist Corps of Developers, along with Five by Five,  recruited coders, product managers and other tech experts from around the world to build tools that helped coordinate rescue efforts, enable crisis communication and make sure emergency supplies and food were quickly distributed to areas in need.  This amounted to a 500 person tech-team working not only on rescue efforts, but also the necessary rebuilding.
